When a death occurs, most people are unaware of what steps need to be taken as well as what options are available to them. The necessary steps usually depend on the location and circumstances. It is important that you understand what can be done, and at Bartley Funeral Homes, we want to ensure that you have the information you need in order to make these important decisions.
Unanticipated death at home or elsewhere
In these situations, you should immediately contact 911. At that point, police and emergency medical personnel will then determine the appropriate actions. Generally, the authorities can release the deceased directly to the funeral home, so that preparations may begin. In some situations, however, the remains may need to be taken to the Medical Examiner’s office. This can occur when the cause of death may need to be determined.
If you are not sure of who to notify or what to do, our staff will assist you in notifying the proper agencies.
