Update About the COVID-19 Situation and Funeral Service
March 19, 2020
To my friends in the Minerva and Malvern Communities:
As the flood of information continues about the COVID-19 situation, I want to reassure our families that it will be “pretty much” business as usual here. By that, I mean that people will pass away, and my staff and I will meet the needs and desires of your families to the best of our abilities in accordance with current public health directives.
I feel the word that we are not hearing in the overwhelming media response is “common sense”. The first type of common sense, good sense, can be described as "the knack for seeing things as they are, and doing things as they ought to be done.”
Alan Wolfelt, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition has advised us,
“The forced need to separate loved ones and friends from each other at a time of death makes it much more difficult for individuals to experience the forward movement that funerals are intended to meet. When people cannot participate in ceremony they often feel as if their mourning is “on hold.” So, some people who experience a death in their family at this time may find the coronavirus as good reason to take the path of least resistance – a direct disposition.”
I say again, when a death occurs in your family, I will meet the needs and desires of your family to the best of my ability in accordance with current public health directives. There are no cookie-cutter solutions. No “one size fits all” mandates.
From the very beginning of this situation, I have been monitoring information from the CDC, Ohio Department of Health and other agencies about the evolution of COVID-19 in the State of Ohio and the United States. As I receive new information, I will share it with you.
I urge you to go to the State of Ohio COVID-19 Website and share the information with your family and friends. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time.
